Gum arabic is used as a binder in watercolor and gouache paints, it is also suitable as a binder for powdered pigment. In addition, it will help you ensure the correct viscosity of water-based inks. If your ink is too runny or smears on inferior paper, you can simply thicken it with gum arabic. We recommend the following procedure:

• pour your ink into a smaller container, we recommend a mini ink bottle
• add gum arabic drop by drop
• keep stirring the mixture and test it on paper, adding gum arabic until you reach the ideal consistency

After drying, the colors will have a glossier surface. Gum arabic is water soluble, so you can also add it to the ink you will be using in fountain pens.
